New Clinical Director for MIMIT
MIMIT's new Clinical Director Professor Gus McGrouther will be working closely with the MIMIT
Director and
Clinical Site Miners to champion MIMIT and promote the MIMIT model and philosophy; a role in which his vast clinical experience will be invaluable.
Prof McGrouther graduated from the University of Glasgow in Medicine and the University of Strathclyde in Bioengineering. In 1989 he was appointed to the first established chair in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at UCL. Moving from initial research in anatomy and biomechanics to physical interactions in wound healing at a cellular level, Professor McGrouther moved to the University of

Manchester in 2001 to allow a more concentrated research focus on wound healing, tissue repair and tissue engineering. His present clinical practice is principally concerned with hand injuries and disease and the care of wounds. He has written and lectured on the anatomy of the hand and face. Professor McGrouther has also written, broadcast and lectured extensively on plastic surgery and disfigurement as an issue of discrimination in society. He has delivered many public lectures communicating the surgeon’s art to a wider audience. Professor McGrouther has a funded collaboration with Professor Pier Paolo Pandolfi in Harvard tackling the question of ‘why are keloid scars not cancers’. Recently Professor McGrouther was invited to help inform the Darzi review on the further of Innovation in the UK.
