Translation of Cell Biomechanics to the Clinic - MIMIT™ Seminar Series

Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre hosted the latest installment of the MIMIT Seminar Series last night with guest speaker Professor Alicia El Haj delivering an interesting presentation relating to the Translation of Cell Biomechanics to the Clinic.

Professor El Haj is the Institute Director of the Institute of Science & Technology in Medicine based at Keele University.  Her interests include Orthopaedic tissue engineering, bioreactors and in vitro conditioning for tissue growth and magnetic nanotechnologies for stem cell targeting.

Professor El Haj has been involved in several funded research projects over the past five years, some of which include; Micromechanical analysis of chondrocytes – the role of the pericellular matrix on behalf of the Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK; Development of magnetic nanoparticle strategies for manipulation and activation of stem cells in vitro and in vivo on behalf of Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), UK and also the Marie Curie Multicentre Training Grant (ALEA JACTA) in regenerative medicine in connection with European Commission VI Framework Programme.

The event was met with enthusiasm which was highlighted by the substantial turnout.
