MIMIT (Manchester: Improving Medicine with Innovation and Technology), in collaboration with Oxford Road Corridor (ORC) and Health Innovation Manchester (HinM) has established an £80,000 development fund to pump-prime up to eight projects that aim to provide solutions to unmet healthcare needs.
Submissions are sought from the Greater Manchester healthcare system for unmet healthcare needs in the areas of ‘living well’ and ‘ageing well’.
Following submission, these unmet needs will be validated and shortlisted by MIMIT for scale, scope and suitability.
Shortlisted submissions will be promoted to the larger MIMIT/Greater Manchester healthcare ecosystem to seek potential collaborative solutions from academics, researchers, clinicians and industry partners.
Up to eight solution providers will be awarded a minimum of £10,000 to pump prime the development of the solution with the aim of preparing the project for further funding.
Submission originators will be expected to become part of the final project team and will benefit from:
The opportunity to pump prime a solution addressing a problem within your daily practice
Increased opportunity for research and collaborative working
The support of a multi-disciplinary project team and MIMIT
A prize fund of £250 awarded to the most original unmet need (selected by a panel).
You will be required to create an account and submit information relating to the clinical priority area of the unmet need, the description and magnitude of the problem and recommend any known clinical experts for reference. You will not be expected to present a solution but will be asked for details on the functional requirements and benefits of any possible solution.
Originators will be expected to present their unmet need in further detail at a forum of clinicians/academics/industry representatives between Oct – Nov 2019.
Deadline for submission of unmet needs 30th August 2019
Forum period/presentation of the unmet need Oct/Nov 2019
Deadline for submission of solutions 31st January 2020
Projects/Solution providers awarded funding March 2020
Submissions are encouraged from practicing clinicians, community healthcare, GPs, nurses and healthcare workers in all fields who work within Greater Manchester’s healthcare system (including Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Salford, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan).
Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
By submitting an unmet need you are agreeing to present, if selected, at a forum event during Oct/Nov 2019 and to be included in the collaborative project team that will work towards the solution.
Submissions for unmet needs will be shortlisted by MIMIT and presented to a MIMIT/Oxford Road Corridor (ORC)/Health Innovation Manchester (HinM) panel.
Final award decisions will be made by a MIMIT/HinM/ORC panel.
The £250 prize fund for the most original unmet need submission will be made by a MIMIT/ORC/HinM panel and excludes entries from direct employees of MIMIT, ORC or HinM.
Your personal contact details will be used solely for purposes of the development fund process and not for any further marketing.
Funding will be awarded to a Greater Manchester organisation/institute and can be used to pay for anything that is clearly related to advancing the innovative product or service, including market research, evaluation of an innovative solution (e.g. benchmarking or clinical testing), third party professional fees (e.g. project management, health economic analysis), activities that will enable early stage revenue generation (e.g. business plan development, prototype development).
Funding cannot be used for any retrospective costs associated with the need or solution, capital costs or legal/financial costs).
The development fund is funded and supported by MIMIT, ORC and HinM – further information on these organisations can be found below:
